Many women gather to bake in someone’s memory or merit: for a yahrzeit or shloshim, for a refuah shleimah, for a shidduch, or for a zechus. Some gather forty, a cherished custom, but a circle of any size is meaningful.
Set it up
- Choose the occasion in the create-a-bake wizard and add the name or names you are baking for (English, Hebrew, and mother’s name if you wish).
- Choose privacy. For a personal request, a private bake with a link for family and friends is a gentle option. For a larger community effort, public lets women everywhere join.
- Share the intention. Send a short message: who you are baking for, the date and how to join.
On the day
Invite each woman to hold the name in mind while she separates challah.
Afterward
Consider sending loaves to the family, a shul kiddush or a food program.
Sample invitation
Join me in baking challah in the merit of [Name] bas/ben [Mother’s name]. We would love for as many women as possible to join. Sign up here: [link]. Even if you cannot bake with us live, you can bake from your own kitchen.
